Not far from Long Pond you get some nice water scenery at Long Pond Storage Dam. There's so much to do here at Long Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Great Pond Campground is a great location for that. The high level of rainfall makes Long Pond a quite wet site; through November this area sees the most rain; February is the month with the least moisture. Now, you may assume that's lots but there's even more cool stuff to do here at Long Pond. If

| | you get bored of Long Pond, you could also take a look at nearby Inghan Pond. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Long Pond has to offer, you can camp at Camp Laurel. Whitewater paddling is good on Cobbosseecontee Stream; dry warm beds await you at Econo Lodge Inn & Suites. Lots of folks from Augusta-Waterville come to Long Pond; a lake close by is Brainard Pond. and through the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Long Pond fall into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. This lake is so wonderful.
Visit Bog Stream if you're here at Long Pond; why not take a refreshing hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Swamps can be such interesting spots, pop by Weston Meadow while you're here at Long Pond; Winthrop Motel is a perfect site to get some rest.

Eaton Mountain
 | 20 miles away 3 PHOTOS Eaton Mountain provides affordable and convenient skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing to the greater Waterville/Skowhegan area. The mountain boasts a suprising variety of terrain for a compact ski area including glades, challenging steeps, and classic New England style trails. Most of the area is covered with snowmaking and is lit for nightskiiing. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The base lodge has a snackbar and provides a place to warm up by the wood stove and meet friends. The ski area has new owners as of November 2008 and will not be operating for the 2008-09 ski season. The new owners will be taking the time to make improvements and prepare for a grand reopening in the fall of 2009. Immediate improvements are planned to include an all new snowtubing facility and widening of the Moose slope for a new terrain park. The ski area is located on Lambert Road, just off Route 2 between Skowhegan and Canaan.... |
