Crooked River
My sister and I put in just below eddes falls this summer and kayaked all the way to sebago lake. Nice trip....My friend Dan and I ran part of this section last summer. Instead of putting in at Scribner's Mill, we launched from Edes Falls, just above the Rapids. It was a good inroduction to whitewater. Dan flipped within the first five minutes, but being that the water is relatively shallow, he did little more than get wet on a hot summers day. The Route 302 bridge is a logical pull out spot. There is a large mass of debris blocking passage of the river there. The only tricky part is that the walls of the riverband are steep and slippery, so it helps to have someone with you for the portage....

Sebago Lake Basin
17 miles away I grew up on Lindsay Island. My folks sold the Islands in 1951 or 52 and moved west to California. My father is still alive but does not remember the selling price. Thks Bob Kelly. ...The Lindsay Islands were purchased in 1957 and are still owned today by three families, the Freemans, Leavitts and Bancrofts...
Chaffin Pond
17 miles away This is a nice small pond just off of 302 but you can't hear any of the busy traffic. I'd recommend LOTS of bug sprays as the mosquitoes tend to swarm and are very plentiful this year. If you're not a fisherman but your children are...there are picnic tables for you to enjoy a book, needlepoint, or just relax and take in the fresh air....
