On a delightful day you acquire a panorama of Knox Mountain from Knox Lake. You can run the rapids of Machias River - West Branch near Knox Lake; Knox Lake is right by the Lead Mountain Trail. You could also explore Second Machias Lake since you're here at Knox Lake; it's close  
   by, and hey, Dunning Brook is a magnificent local stream.
This lake is so wonderful. There's whitewater on Machias River for all you adrenaline rush seekers; you can stay the night at Keenes Lake Camping Grounds. During the summer at Knox Lake highs are generally in the 70's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here

Clifford Lake is very isolated . You can get their via route 9 or Route 1 in Princeton. I would recommend a recent typo map and asking plenty of guestions from the locals. There is a small camping area. My last trip there (92) I had a truck and it was needed to traverse one road that comes to mind. The fishing was excellent ( pickerel averaged 20 in.) .
