Go to Johns Pond if you want to go to a nice lake. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the White Mountains. If you came for an overnight stay North Camps is a great place to camp, and you can hit the slopes at Black Mountain around here. Johns Pond is right by the Bemis Trail. Lakes? Sure, Kennebago River Reservoir is nearby. There are some pleasant whitewater spots on Dead River - South Branch; do take a hike on the Morrell Trail.
Summertime at Johns Pond

arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. During the wintertime highs are mostly in the 20's with temperatures at Johns Pond dipping down into the-10's during winter nights. This lake is located in the wonderful White Mountains. But wait, there's more enjoyable things to do in the White Mountains. The Milrose Trail offers hiking at its best, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Saddleback.

This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Kennebago River, and not far from Johns Pond you acquire some splendid water scenery at Lower Station Dam. All the water falling down from the sky makes Johns Pond a wet spot; August is the month that gets the most rain while February is frequently the driest month. That right there is plenty already, but it continues; Johns Pond has it all. Why not camp at Cupsuptic Campground if you're here at Johns Pond, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always pop by nearby Johns Pond.
This lake is so wonderful.

I've been visiting Bugeye Pond for as long as I've been alive as my family owns one of the two camps on it and I've always found it to be a very pristine and relaxing place. Aside from snowmobile noise in the winter and traffic on route 27, I would have to say it is the most gorgeous place in Maine. As for the fishing, I haven't been there since I actually began fishing so I can't really attest to that. My parents were up there this past weekend and said there were people on the pond all weekend long, but they never saw anybody land a brookie despite the abundant rises....
