    If you are in Piscataquis county it's always a good idea to stop by Indian Pond. If you're here at Indian Pond, you could have a look at Bog Brook, and you can run the rapids of Ellis Brook. Good hiking is available along the Chase Carry, and if you came for an overnight stay Frost Pond Campground is a delightful site to camp.
Chamberlain Lake is a fine lake near Indian Pond, and skiing at Big Squaw is one of those things you just have to do. The yearly
 
   rainfall here at Indian Pond is about average; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; February is the month with the least moisture. Just can't get enough of Indian Pond. Lakes? Sure, Bog Pond is in the vicinity, and there are delightful places to explore along the Carry Trail.
This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Indian Pond without first going for a hike along the Telephone Trail, and a perfect place for whitewater paddling is Smith
 
               Brook. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Indian Pond. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Indian Pond are in the-10's.

I worked two summers for Great Northern Paper Company on Chesuncook Lake.  1967 and 68 were two of the last years the drive existed as it was replaced in the early 70's by truckers.  Also worked at Ripogenus Dam sluicing pulp into the Millinocket River and followed the wood down toward Millinocket.  Slept, ate in the Boom House.  Winston Morse was our boss the first year and Bert McBernie the second.  Nelson Lavasseur was the overall boss of the drive.  Chesuncook then could at times be covered by pulp wood often being towed down lake by the Edward Hilton a 70' tow boat that moved about 1/2 mile an hour under load....

The loons will dry off after diving for a meal....
