If you are in Franklin county it's always a good idea to stop by Horseshoe Pond. Go for a hike on the Arnold Pond Trail, and whitewater paddling is good on Moose River - South Branch. This lake is so wonderful. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Arnold Trail is always a perfect adventure, and Horseshoe Pond is great enough to spend more than a day at, Cathedral Pines Camping Area is a great local campground. Pond is Cupsuptic Campground, and hey, Gotta ski right? Saddleback is a good place to do that. At Horseshoe Pond through the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's. All through the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Horseshoe Pond.

 | 11 miles away 2 PHOTOS I've been visiting Bugeye Pond for as long as I've been alive as my family owns one of the two camps on it and I've always found it to be a very pristine and relaxing place. Aside from snowmobile noise in the winter and traffic on route 27, I would have to say it is the most gorgeous place in Maine. As for the fishing, I haven't been there since I actually began fishing so I can't really attest to that. My parents were up there this past weekend and said there were people on the pond all weekend long, but they never saw anybody land a brookie despite the abundant rises.... |
