Bunganut Pond
12 miles away Bunganut is a wonderful body of water. The fishing is excellent in the early spring for large and smallmouth bass. The water is beautiful and is perfect for cruising on a nice boat and enjoying the sunset. Just be careful of the rocks, as Bunganut means Land of rocks in some language....
West Pond
13 miles away West Pond is a truly special place, in the foothils of Mr. Washington. As you approach the pond from the South on Rt. 160, you are met by a breathtaking view of Mt. Washington which is 40 miles away. The water in west pond is crystal clear, and you can often hear the loons. There is a large area around the pond that is protected in tree growth, so the pond will never face additional stress of building. There is also no public access for boats, and that keeps it quiet and free of the kind of noise and congestion you see in popular lakes elsewhere....

Crooked River
14 miles away My sister and I put in just below eddes falls this summer and kayaked all the way to sebago lake. Nice trip....My friend Dan and I ran part of this section last summer. Instead of putting in at Scribner's Mill, we launched from Edes Falls, just above the Rapids. It was a good inroduction to whitewater. Dan flipped within the first five minutes, but being that the water is relatively shallow, he did little more than get wet on a hot summers day. The Route 302 bridge is a logical pull out spot. There is a large mass of debris blocking passage of the river there. The only tricky part is that the walls of the riverband are steep and slippery, so it helps to have someone with you for the portage....

Chaffin Pond
16 miles away This is a nice small pond just off of 302 but you can't hear any of the busy traffic. I'd recommend LOTS of bug sprays as the mosquitoes tend to swarm and are very plentiful this year. If you're not a fisherman but your children are...there are picnic tables for you to enjoy a book, needlepoint, or just relax and take in the fresh air....
Mousam Lake
17 miles away 1 PHOTO ...s dad would take us in the boat up to the other end of Mousam Lake, under the bridge, to Meters where we got gas and a chocolate covered ice cream. There would be mom, dad, my twin brother and our dog Timothy. We would ride as far as we could go and stop in a cove and eat lunch then go catch frogs or turtles or find a turtle egg. Mom screamed when we would let a frog loose in the boat. Especially when the boat was moving. We would go further under a road where we all had to duck down in the boat and dad would get us thru the pipe into an area of the lake that was all lily pads. We always had to pull up the motor so it wouldn't tangle in the weeds. Those were the best days. I live in NC now and have missed the days of New England, so, now I am 63 and my husband is 64 and we are in Maine for a week. We are planning on going next week and take our kayaks which we purchased last month, and go to the public boat launch. I hope to relive some childhood memories at Mousam Lake. I am enclosing a picture of my grandparents Addie and Wm True Ridley and my dad Laurence W Ridley about 19...
