Do stop by Haywire Pond while you're in this part of Maine. Birch Point Lodge Campgrounds is a fine local campground; don't forget to take a great little tour to Fourmile Brook. For the duration of the summer months highs here at Haywire Pond get into the 70's, and the overnight is a tad chillier of course, generally in the 50's. | | precipitation falls here at Haywire Pond; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Katahdin Inn is a nice spot to get some rest, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Macwahoc Stream. If you came for an overnight stay Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park is a great place to camp, and get your heart beating on the fine whitewater of Mattawamkeag.
