    Hay Lake is a lake worth visiting. The amount of precipitation that falls at Hay Lake is close to the national average; July is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is February. Little Hay Brook is a glorious local stream, and at Hay Lake you can make out Hay Mountain. Throughout the warm days of summer here at Hay Lake, high temperatures commonly reach the 70's. Summer night lows dip down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs  
   are typically in the 20's; night lows at Hay Lake through the winter commonly descend into the-10's.
Dry warm beds await you at Katahdin Inn. There's pleasant hiking along the Jerry Pond Tote Road; Hay Lake is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Matagamon Wilderness Campground is a splendid local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Grand Lake Matagamon is a delightful lake right next door to Hay Lake, and don't leave Hay Lake without first
 
               going for a hike along the Matagamon Tote Road.
Just can't get enough of Hay Lake. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Penobscot River - East Branch, and camping at Shin Pond Village Campground is always a brilliant experience. The Snowshoe Lake Road offers hiking at its best; there's whitewater on Shin Brook River for all you thrill seekers.
