| | Camping; do pop by Welchville Dam while you're here. What a spot this is for outdoors folks. One of the governing characteristics of the surroundings of Green Pond is Dean Hill; for you golfers we recommend nearby Poland Spring Golf Course. This lake is so wonderful. Green Pond is not the only spot close by, Hogan Pond is a close by lake, and Crooked River has a splendid whitewater paddling spot nearby. A good close by hotel is Travelodge Lewiston, and paddling | |

on Little Androscoggin River is so much fun. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Green Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Paul and Gail's Campground is a glorious location for that, and a quick trip
to Meadow Brook is absolutely a good idea. Green Pond is a wet place that gets a good deal of precipitation; most of the rain falls during November, and the driest month is September. If you get bored of Green Pond, you could also pop by close by Mud Pond.

Crooked River
 | My sister and I put in just below eddes falls this summer and kayaked all the way to sebago lake. Nice trip....My friend Dan and I ran part of this section last summer. Instead of putting in at Scribner's Mill, we launched from Edes Falls, just above the Rapids. It was a good inroduction to whitewater. Dan flipped within the first five minutes, but being that the water is relatively shallow, he did little more than get wet on a hot summers day. The Route 302 bridge is a logical pull out spot. There is a large mass of debris blocking passage of the river there. The only tricky part is that the walls of the riverband are steep and slippery, so it helps to have someone with you for the portage.... |

Chaffin Pond
 | 12 miles away This is a nice small pond just off of 302 but you can't hear any of the busy traffic. I'd recommend LOTS of bug sprays as the mosquitoes tend to swarm and are very plentiful this year. If you're not a fisherman but your children are...there are picnic tables for you to enjoy a book, needlepoint, or just relax and take in the fresh air.... |
