    If you are in Washington county it's always a good idea to stop by Great Works Pond. This lake is so wonderful. You don’t have to go far from Great Works Pond to spot the water at Great Works Dam; there are some great whitewater spots on Dennys River. And if that's not enough, there's a load more to do near Great Works Pond. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Cathance Stream, and you can stay the night at Cobscook Bay State Park. At Great Works Pond throughout the  
   summer months highs are in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Great Works Pond.
Long Lake is a magnificent lake right next door to Great Works Pond, and Roosevelt Campobello International Park is a good national park. Great Works Pond is a wet site that gets a lot of precipitation; November is when you get the most
 
               rain here, and the driest month is July.
Camp Rips is always fun to check out; the top of Birch Hill is easily seen from Great Works Pond. Preston Brook is a stream that you may stumble upon while you're here. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Great Works Pond has to offer, you can camp at Knowlton's Seashore Campground.
