South Branch Pond Campground is a delightful campground nearby, and not far from First Lake you'll locate Grand Lake Matagamon which is a delightful lake. At First Lake through the warm months highs are in the 70's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at First Lake plunge       into the-10's. First Lake gets a typical amount of yearly rain; July is when you get the most rain here; February is when it's the driest. Going for a hike on the Matagamon Tote Road is always a brilliant adventure; paddling on Penobscot River - East Branch is so much fun. This lake is so wonderful. The sight of Horse Mountain from First Lake is pretty. Don't you try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a good time here at First Lake. Trout Brook is a stream that                  you may bump into while you're here, and a visit to Big Logan is always a wonderful idea. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave First Lake without first going for a hike along the Munsungan Lake Tote Road, and Matagamon Wilderness Campground is a tremendous local campground. Katahdin Inn is a great spot to get some rest; whitewater paddling is good on Millinocket Stream. There are good places to explore along the Jerry Pond Tote Road, and an attention-grabbing thing to stop by in the neighborhood of First Lake is Grand Lake Dam.   Katahdin Inn, Millinocket 26 miles away The Econo Lodge is located at the northern end of the Appalachian Trail.
