Maine has many beautiful lakes and First Chain Lake is one of them. This lake is so wonderful. Keenes Lake Camping Grounds is a magnificent local campground; the scenery at Chain Lake Dam is beautiful. A great nearby hotel is Bar Harbor Inn, and Old Stream is a great whitewater spot close by. If you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Machias River; First Chain Lake is a nice location to visit for more than one day, Big Lake

| | Campground is a nice location to camp nearby. First Chain Lake sees pretty high levels of precipitation; November is when you get the most rain here; June is when it's the driest. First Chain Lake is not the only place nearby, South Beaverdam Lake is a nearby lake; some of the water close by flows, like Chain Lake Stream.  | Clifford Lake is very isolated . You can get their via route 9 or Route 1 in Princeton. I would recommend a recent typo map and asking plenty of guestions from the locals. There is a small camping area. My last trip there (92) I had a truck and it was needed to traverse one road that comes to mind. The fishing was excellent ( pickerel averaged 20 in.) .
