Keenes Lake Camping Grounds is a magnificent local campground; the scenery at Chain Lake Dam is beautiful. A great nearby hotel is Bar Harbor Inn, and Old Stream is a great whitewater spot close by. If you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Machias River; First Chain Lake is a nice location to visit for more than one day, Big Lake       Campground is a nice location to camp nearby. First Chain Lake sees pretty high levels of precipitation; November is when you get the most rain here; June is when it's the driest. First Chain Lake is not the only place nearby, South Beaverdam Lake is a nearby lake; some of the water close by flows, like Chain Lake Stream. All through the summer at First Chain Lake highs are generally in the 70's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures                  drop down into the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are ordinarily in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for First Chain Lake. So many cool things to do at First Chain Lake, so little time.
