Ellis Brook is a great whitewater spot near Cuxabexis Lake; Lodge at Moosehead Lake is a fine spot to get some rest. From a precipitation point of view Cuxabexis Lake is a quite normal place; most of the rain falls through July, and February is the month with the least moisture. Hiking along the Telephone Trail is tremendous fun; a beautiful lake like Moose Pond is a great place to explore. High temperatures at Cuxabexis Lake all through the months of summer
are in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are commonly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Cuxabexis Lake are in the-10's.
This lake is so wonderful. Take a hike on the Old Telos Tote Road, and what would winter be without some skiing at Big Squaw. Having a great time at Cuxabexis Lake is painless. Camping at Frost Pond Campground is always a great experience; you'll

come across a wonderful lake called Umbazooksus Lake. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Carry Trail; if you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Smith Brook.

Chesuncook Lake
I worked two summers for Great Northern Paper Company on Chesuncook Lake.  1967 and 68 were two of the last years the drive existed as it was replaced in the early 70's by truckers.  Also worked at Ripogenus Dam sluicing pulp into the Millinocket River and followed the wood down toward Millinocket.  Slept, ate in the Boom House.  Winston Morse was our boss the first year and Bert McBernie the second.  Nelson Lavasseur was the overall boss of the drive.  Chesuncook then could at times be covered by pulp wood often being towed down lake by the Edward Hilton a 70' tow boat that moved about 1/2 mile an hour under load....
