     Going for a hike along the Alder Brook Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and Penobscot River - South Branch has a pleasant whitewater paddling spot close by. Wounded Deer Pond is a nearby lake that you could stop by, and you can have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Bald Mountain Trail. High temperatures at Cheney Pond throughout the days of summer are in the 70's while night lows are commonly in the 50's. For the duration  
   of the wintertime highs are usually in the 20's with temperatures at Cheney Pond dipping down into the-10's throughout winter nights. After a long day outdoors Herbert Grand Hotel is a fine place to spend a night or two.
You just can't picture the amount of outdoors amusing things the area close to Cheney Pond has to offer. If you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Penobscot River - South Branch, and Penobscot Lake
 
               Dam is an exciting thing to check out. While you're here at Cheney Pond you can take a hike along the Sally Mountain Trail; a good location to camp here at Cheney Pond is Jackman Landing Campground. The amount of precipitation that falls at Cheney Pond is close to the national average; through the month of July you get the most rain around here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Cheney Pond, you could also stop at delightful Dority Pond; camping at Old Mill Camping Area is always a nice experience.
