If you want a great time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Carlisle Pond. There are some good whitewater spots on Mattawamkeag River - West Branch. If you come at the right time of year, St. Croix Stream offers some pleasant whitewater, and there are pleasant spots to look at along the Sweets Trail. Carlisle Pond gets a common amount of rain; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain while February       is usually the driest month. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Carlisle Pond while overnight lows are mostly in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 20's with temperatures at Carlisle Pond dipping down into the-10's during winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. Shiretown Motor Inn is a fine site to get some rest; camping is available at Wilde Pines Campground. The view of scenic Long Brook Ridge near Carlisle Pond is good; close by you stumble                  on the Kennedy Tote Road which is a delightful hiking trail.
