     The Big Spencer Mountain Trail is a great hiking trail right next door to Big Pine Pond. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Big Pine Pond has to offer, you can camp at Frost Pond Campground. You could also check out Grass Pond if you're here at Big Pine Pond; it's close by; there is a delightful hiking trail close by called the Number Four Mountain Trail. A wonderful spot for whitewater paddling close to Big Pine Pond is Roach River, and Caucomgomoc  
   Stream is a good whitewater spot close by. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Big Pine Pond, and the night is fairly chillier of course, frequently in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are mostly in the 20's; all through the dark hours in the winter at Big Pine Pond temperatures sink to the-10's.
After a long day outdoors Lodge at Moosehead Lake is a great place to spend a night or two; if you've had enough of Big Pine Pond, Round Pond is close by.
 
               This lake is so wonderful. The vista of beautiful Black Cap Mountain near Big Pine Pond is splendid, and going for a hike on the Carry Trail is always a pleasant adventure. You imagine that's enough? Just getting warmed up. What would winter be without some skiing at Big Squaw, and you can stay the night at Caseys Spencer Bay Campground.
This lake is so wonderful. The annual precipitation here at Big Pine Pond is about average; the wettest month of the year is commonly July, that's the one that rains the most, and February on the other hand is the driest.
