Old Stream is a tremendous whitewater spot near Big Lake, and Big Lake is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Keenes Lake Camping Grounds is a tremendous local campground. A day at Hold Shore close to Big Lake is time well spent. You think that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. Lakes are such peaceful spots, why not stop at East Arm Clifford Lake close to Big Lake, and a good spot to camp here at       Big Lake is Big Lake Campground. If you need a place to stay Scottish Inns Houlton is a good choice, and let's not forget Bonney Brook which is a stream that you may stumble upon while you're here. Big Lake gets a good deal of water; November is the wettest month with most rain; June meanwhile is the driest month. A pleasant location for whitewater paddling close to Big Lake is Grand Lake Stream, and Clifford Lake is a brilliant lake close by. All through                  the warm days of summer here at Big Lake, high temperatures mostly reach the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's with temperatures at Big Lake dipping down into the 0's throughout winter nights. This lake is so wonderful.
