If you like lakes and you're in this part of Maine you can check out Big Island Pond. This lake is so wonderful. If you came for an overnight stay Cathedral Pines Camping Area is a tremendous place to camp; if you come at the right time of year, Dead River - North Branch offers some tremendous whitewater. day at Big Island Pond you can take a hike along the Arnold Pond Trail, and Saddleback has great slopes and a friendly staff. Big Island Pond is a wet site that gets a lot of rain; August is the month that gets the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest.

 | 2 PHOTOS I've been visiting Bugeye Pond for as long as I've been alive as my family owns one of the two camps on it and I've always found it to be a very pristine and relaxing place. Aside from snowmobile noise in the winter and traffic on route 27, I would have to say it is the most gorgeous place in Maine. As for the fishing, I haven't been there since I actually began fishing so I can't really attest to that. My parents were up there this past weekend and said there were people on the pond all weekend long, but they never saw anybody land a brookie despite the abundant rises.... |
