North Camps is a great campground nearby, and don't leave Ben Gile Pond without first going for a hike along the Bemis Trail. Now, you may feel that's lots but there's even more cool stuff to do here at Ben Gile Pond. Going for a hike on the Piazza Rock Trail is always a delightful adventure, and golf can be played at Evergreen Golf Club & Golf School. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Black Mountain. Really good skiing awaits you at Saddleback,

| | and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always visit nearby Blanchard Ponds. This is a good region for folks who like lakes. Cow Pond is a lake in the neighborhood, and Black Brook Cove Campground is a wonderful local campground. Throughout the summertime, highs usually are in the 70's at Ben Gile Pond, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Pond dipping down into the-10's during winter nights. Ben Gile Pond gets a normal amount of rain; most of the rain falls through August, and the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful. A great spot for
whitewater paddling in the vicinity of Ben Gile Pond is Dead River - South Branch, and there are perfect locations to look at along the Milrose Trail.

 | 12 miles away 2 PHOTOS I've been visiting Bugeye Pond for as long as I've been alive as my family owns one of the two camps on it and I've always found it to be a very pristine and relaxing place. Aside from snowmobile noise in the winter and traffic on route 27, I would have to say it is the most gorgeous place in Maine. As for the fishing, I haven't been there since I actually began fishing so I can't really attest to that. My parents were up there this past weekend and said there were people on the pond all weekend long, but they never saw anybody land a brookie despite the abundant rises.... |
