If you are in this part of Maine make sure to pay a visit to Bear Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Do stop by Shirley Pond in close proximity to Bear Pond, it's a pretty lake, and there is a fine hiking trail nearby called the Number Four Mountain Trail. That right there is lots already, but it carries on; Bear Pond has it all. Camping at Northern Pride Lodge and Campground is always a wonderful experience, and Piscataquis River - West Branch has a tremendous

| | whitewater paddling spot nearby. Don't miss out on a good swamp; Dennin Swamp is right here at Bear Pond, and in the event that you don’t have a problem getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Piscataquis River - East Branch. The annual precipitation here at Bear Pond is about average; the month with most of the rain is July, and the driest month is February. and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Bear Pond temperatures dip to the-10's. Shirley Pond Dam is not far at all from Bear Pond;
on a delightful day you can take a hike along the Big Squaw Mountain Trail. If you came to camp Balsam woods Campground is a great place to do that, and Bingham Motor Inn is a splendid place to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful.
A stunning lake like Bunker Ponds in close proximity to Bear Pond is a splendid site to have a look at, and some nearby water includes Bunker Stream. If you need a place to stay Lodge at Moosehead Lake is a pleasant choice, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Intake Trail.

Eaton Mountain
 | 29 miles away 3 PHOTOS Eaton Mountain provides affordable and convenient skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing to the greater Waterville/Skowhegan area. The mountain boasts a suprising variety of terrain for a compact ski area including glades, challenging steeps, and classic New England style trails. Most of the area is covered with snowmaking and is lit for nightskiiing. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The base lodge has a snackbar and provides a place to warm up by the wood stove and meet friends. The ski area has new owners as of November 2008 and will not be operating for the 2008-09 ski season. The new owners will be taking the time to make improvements and prepare for a grand reopening in the fall of 2009. Immediate improvements are planned to include an all new snowtubing facility and widening of the Moose slope for a new terrain park.
