     Long Pond Dam is worth going to while you're here; Clapham Brook is in the neighborhood of Basin Pond and is always a pleasure to check out. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors exciting stuff the area in close proximity to Basin Pond has to offer. Why not camp at Mountainview Campground since you're here at Basin Pond; The Harborside Hotel and Marina is a splendid place to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking is a popular thing to do  
   around Basin Pond; Jessup Trail is a tremendous local trail, and don't forget to stop at Long Cove while you're here. If time allows, Acadia National Park is a national park worth visiting.
And that's not all you can do here at Basin Pond. There are some wonderful whitewater spots on Narraguagus River - West Branch, and a great place to camp here at Basin Pond is Mountain View Campground. One of the major characteristics of the surroundings of Basin Pond
 
               is Baker Hill. Lakes are perfect; Long Pond is a lake that's in the vicinity of Basin Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Nothing beats kicking back at Schoodic Beach, and there's whitewater on Union River - East Branch for all you thrill seekers.
Good hiking is available along the Bar Island Trail, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always explore close by Mill Pond. Black Beach is a beach near Basin Pond that you can go to, and if you need a site to stay Bar Harbor Inn is a fine choice. High temperatures at Basin Pond throughout the months of summer are in the 70's while overnight lows are typically in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's; through the dark hours in the winter at Basin Pond temperatures descend to the 10's.
There are swamps here too; Schoodic Bog is close at hand, and there's glorious hiking along the Kebo Mountain Trail. Basin Pond gets a good deal of water; during November this area sees the most rain while August is commonly the driest month.

The showers were clean, the sites were clean and it was not the most expensive. Forewarned, the shuttle bus doesn't go there, price to pay for remoteness....
