     Sunday River Ski and Golf Resort is a pleasant place to get some rest, and of course Mountain Brook is a pretty stream that is worth taking a look at. Near Barker Pond you hit upon the Arnold Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail, and a fine view of beautiful Marble Mountain is available. Man, is there a heap of cool stuff to do in the neighborhood of Barker Pond. Going for a hike on the Arnold Pond Trail is always a splendid adventure. There's so much to do  
   here at Barker Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Deer Mountain Campground is a perfect spot for that. A great deal of rain falls at Barker Pond; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is February.
Barker Pond is great enough to spend more than a day at, Cupsuptic Campground is a great local campground. Lakes? Sure, Abbie Pond is close at hand. The warmest time of the year at Barker Pond comes with high temperatures
 
               in the 70's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's while Barker Pond overnight low temperatures through the winter are in the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Get soaked paddling on Magalloway River, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always pop by nearby Upper Black Pond.

Drove up on the 14th of October, 1 day before season closed. First time in 35 years of going was the pond complete smooth, not a ripple. Between my friend and I, we must have caught 30-40 fish both on dry & wet flies, only keeping 4 for breakfast the next morning.
