A nice place for whitewater paddling right next door to Austin Pond is Piscataquis River - West Branch, and lakes are such serene locations, why not stop by Little Palmer Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Stay the night at Breezy Acres, and going for a hike along the Big Squaw Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. You can run the rapids of Austin Stream near Austin Pond, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Intake

Eaton Mountain
 | 21 miles away 3 PHOTOS Eaton Mountain provides affordable and convenient skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing to the greater Waterville/Skowhegan area. The mountain boasts a suprising variety of terrain for a compact ski area including glades, challenging steeps, and classic New England style trails. Most of the area is covered with snowmaking and is lit for nightskiiing. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The base lodge has a snackbar and provides a place to warm up by the wood stove and meet friends. The ski area has new owners as of November 2008 and will not be operating for the 2008-09 ski season. The new owners will be taking the time to make improvements and prepare for a grand reopening in the fall of 2009. Immediate improvements are planned to include an all new snowtubing facility and widening of the Moose slope for a new terrain park. The ski area is located on Lambert Road, just off Route 2 between Skowhegan and Canaan.... |
