This lake is so wonderful. There is a perfect hiking trail in the neighborhood of Atkins Pond called the Eagle Lake Tote Road; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Munsungan Stream. Near Atkins Pond you come across the Freezeout Road which is a perfect hiking trail. The warmest time of the year at Atkins       Pond comes with high temperatures in the 70's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 20's while Atkins Pond nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the-10's. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this site. A pleasant place to camp here at Atkins Pond is South Branch Pond Campground, and do visit Little Millinocket Lake, it's a stunning lake. The                  yearly rain here at Atkins Pond is about average; most of the rain falls throughout July; the driest month of the year is February. Going for a hike on the Munsungan Lake Tote Road is always a pleasant adventure; Atkins Pond is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Matagamon Wilderness Campground is a tremendous local campground.
