Don't leave Rocky Gorge Reservoir without first going for a hike along the Western Ridge Trail, and get wet paddling on Little Patuxent River. This lake is so wonderful. Rocky Gorge Reservoir is not far at all from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, and lakes are such calm spots, why not pop by Blue Pond. Be careful coming to Rocky Gorge Reservoir, you might not ever want to return back home again. are mostly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Rocky Gorge Reservoir dipping down into the 20's during winter nights.
Rocky
Gorge Reservoir gets much water; most of the rain falls through May, and the driest month of the year is January. This lake is so wonderful. Camping at Scotts Cove Campground is always a brilliant experience, and you can go for a
hike on the Valley Trail. Laurel Lake is a great lake in close proximity to Rocky Gorge Reservoir, and camping is available at Sports International.

| I often take my kids to the park at Greenbelt Lake. The playground is very big and they have a ton of fun. There are things there suitable for all kids ages. We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |

...t. Meade army post is a beautiful nature preserve with picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, ... |
