Antietam Creek
 | 1 PHOTO Wow, I live on Little Antietam and the creek seemed at normal level so we went to Funkstown and dropped our canoe in. It was great. My husband was fishing and I was just enjoying the ride. Just after we passed the area that is closest to Alt 40 and Cool Hollow Rd we hit rock. For the next 3 hours we scooted, pushed and walked till we hit the bridge on Barnes Rd. What a drag. If the water fall shown is past that I guess I'll never see it.... this is a very nice stretch that also offers good fishing. I guide smallmouth and trout fishing by kayak on this stretch and the 7 miles downstream. Feel free to contact me for free info or to book a scenic paddle or fishing trip. I've got lots of kayaks and canoes and all the gear. info@fishnfloatadventures.com. 301-432-8469. Here is a pic of one of my favorite spots.... |
Beaver Creek
 | 11 miles away 1 PHOTO Some additional information that you might be interested in about Beaver Creek is that it is a true limestone spring fed creek. That means that it has warm water in the Winter and cool water in the Summer. The upwelling of water through the limestone bedrock creates a unique ecosystem in Maryland with freshwater shrimp, watercress, and lots of well fed trout. In Winter, this stream can be 10 degrees warmer than any other water and this really attracts wildlife, especially ducks. This is a wonderful little creek to paddle in a 9-10 foot kayak. I guide trout fishing on this stream and it is one of my favorite creeks in Maryland. It holds some trout over 6 lbs. throughout the year. I do not reccommend kayaking this creek in April because there are lots of people fishing for trout. If you would like more free information or to book a scenic paddle or trout fishing day, feel free to contact me at 301-432-8469 or visit my website at http://www.fishnfloatadventures.com... |
Back Creek
 | 13 miles away i do not agree with the II(III) rating of the creek. it is similar in difficulty to nearby sleepy creek and i have no problems paddling this section going upstream (in low water) as well as down. there is also a much more convenient take out at Rt. 3/2 that costs you a mile or so of water but significantly shortens the shuttle. i have not yet used the new gauge upstream of this section for calibration, but if opequon creek at martinsburg is at 3' and sideling hill creek gauge is at 1.4' - the creek should be up.
tilhance creek is very beautiful and has just about every kind of wildlife as well as nice cliffs. use the Rt. 3/2 take out. you will need close to 60 CFS on Hogue Creek to boat tihance.... |
