Pence Pond is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Duncan's Family Campground is a tremendous local campground, and some of the water close by flows, like Southwest Branch Charles Branch. Lakes are such calm sites, why not have a look at Chews Lake close to Pence Pond, and do pay a visit to Fort Washington Park since you're here at Pence Pond. | | are in the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Pence Pond. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Anacostia River, and Pence Pond is right by the Loop Trail. Pence Pond frequently gets a great deal of rain; August is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful. offers some glorious whitewater, and playing golf is lots of fun at Marlton Golf Club. Lots of people from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria come to Pence Pond, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Magnolia Trail. This lake
is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Pence Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Cedarville State Park is a splendid spot for that, and there are other sites here than Pence Pond, for example Dower House Pond. Sleep
Inn & Suites Upper Marlboro is a great site to get some rest. What a location this is for outdoors folks. Dry warm beds await you at Colony South, and do take a hike on the Cross Road Trail.

We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |
Burba Lake
 | 18 miles away 1 PHOTO ...e army post is a beautiful nature preserve with picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, though ... |
