What a nice lake Pence Pond is. Pence Pond is a location with many visitors from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, and Duncan's Family Campground is a glorious campground nearby. This lake is so wonderful. The Cross Road Trail offers hiking at its best; a fine place for whitewater paddling is Anacostia River. Summertime highs at Pence Pond typically tend to be in the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are

| | mostly in the 40's with temperatures at Pence Pond dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at nearby Dower House Pond, and dry warm beds await you at Colony South. There's magnificent hiking along the Magnolia Trail. has so much outdoors cool stuff. Getting to Southwest Branch Charles Branch from Pence Pond is easy. Lakes? Sure, Chews Lake is close at hand. Pence Pond typically gets much rain; August is when you get the most rain here while February
is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful. An afternoon playing golf at Marlton Golf Club is always a diversion, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Pence Pond; Loop Trail is a pleasant local trail.

We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |
Burba Lake

A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, though I'm not a great writer...this is a wonderful and serene place that I alw... |
