 | This is a very forgiving and beautiful stretch of river; however, there are a number of strainers to negotiate. One thing, though, I have lived in MD for decades and NEVER seen a poisonous snake, not like I have out west or down south, and the VERY first outing on this stretch had us come across two copperheads within a half hour of each other, with the second sunning itself on the very strainer we had to pull the boats across and climb over ourselves. Other than that, add a couple of hours to any suggested trip durations, if the water is lower.... |
Deer Creek
 | 12 miles away There are many put in and take out spots along the creek. A nice paddle is Eden Mill park down to Rocks state park. Put in by parking at Eden Mill Nature Center off of Gwan Grove rd. Take out at the parking area under the king and queen seats off 24 in rocks (by old consesion stand. Do not paddle further unless you are an accomplished paddler due to the immediate section after the take out. It is a fall line creaed shoot that drops about 35 feet over 100 yards and narrows to 1/3 original wifth. Not difficult but intimidating and surprising if not ready and has a potential pin spot below biggest drop.... |
