It's always fun to stop by Lake Roland. Moores Branch flows through this region. There's so much to do here at Lake Roland that you need to camp here for a while, Timer Ridge is a great spot for that. Lots of people from Baltimore-Towson come to Lake Roland; not far from Lake Roland you obtain some good water scenery at Lake Roland Dam. If you need a site to stay Mt. Gunpowder Falls
 | This is a very forgiving and beautiful stretch of river; however, there are a number of strainers to negotiate. One thing, though, I have lived in MD for decades and NEVER seen a poisonous snake, not like I have out west or down south, and the VERY first outing on this stretch had us come across two copperheads within a half hour of each other, with the second sunning itself on the very strainer we had to pull the boats across and climb over ourselves. Other than that, add a couple of hours to any suggested trip durations, if the water is lower.... |
Burba Lake
 | 16 miles away 1 PHOTO ...roups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, though I'm not a great writer...this is a wonderful and serene place that I always make time t... |

 | 26 miles away Regular camping fees at this time (06/08) are $16/night. I have been camping at Greenbelt Park every summer for a week for the last 7 years. It was always at $14 up till last year when it went up to $16. Great Park though! Love it!... |
