Lake Ashburton is a great lake in an area with lots of outdoors fun all around. This lake is so wonderful. You clearly have to like Lake Ashburton. Take a little journey to Dead Run if you're here at Lake Ashburton; you'll meet a lot of folks from Baltimore-Towson here. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Lake Ashburton. All through the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 60's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and overnight lows

A typical amount of rain falls here at Lake Ashburton; May is the wettest month with most rain; the driest of the months is February. A tremendous site to camp here at Lake Ashburton is Patapsco Valley State Park, and unsurprisingly, all our national parks are great places to visit and Greenbelt Park is no exception. Lake Ashburton is great enough to spend
more than a day at, Timer Ridge is a great local campground, and magnificent water scenery is available at Lake Ashburton Dam next to Lake Ashburton. There's whitewater on Gwynns Falls for all you adrenaline junkies, and Wash Water Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out.

...roups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. Regular camping fees at this time (06/08) are $16/night. I have been camping at Greenbelt Park every summer for a week for the last 7 years. It was always at $14 up till last year when it went up to $16. Great Park though! Love it!... |
