Carrs Beach
No one tells you that this beach is a private community beach and they do not allow you to be there if you do not belong. My family and I went down there and we were not allowed to go on the beach because we were not community residents....Where exactly is carrs beach in maryland?...
Sparrows Beach
Sparrows beach is a gated private community. Nothing nearby but other private communities. The only beach open to the public in this area is Sandy Point State Park located just off Route 50. 5 dollars for Maryland residents and 6 for others....
Mayo Beach
In 1964-65 my band the Chauntels played the Mayo Beach dances during the summer. What great memories. I would like to locate any photo's of The Chauntels band that were taken at that time. I have one taken with me and one of our fans....I just read an article on the degradation of the Chesapeake Bay and the declining population of the blue crab. As a teenager growing up in Silver Spring, MD, we spent many weekends at Mayo Beach. We had close friends who had a weekend home on the bay at Mayo Beach and we spent countless hours on their small boat dock dangling chicken necks tied onto lines and lowered into the water to capture the blue crabs. Once the crabs started feeding on the chicken necks, we would slowly pull the lines up and take a hand held net and capture them. The reward from this activity was a pot full of delicious, steamed blue crabs for dinner. It sounds like those times are gone!...
Triton Beach
1 PHOTO We also use to go to Triton quite a few times each summer thru the early 50's and 60's. We have a lot of photos taken there when we were kids. I absolutely loved it. The water was clean, there was a cool playground with a trapeze and the main pavilion had cool games, slots & food. As a little kid, I was fascinated by the ''maze'' like locker room. It had rows and rows of booths to change in. I couldn't make up my mind. I remember pulling into the lot and there was a big loud speaker on the building. I seem to remember it playing ''Shh-boom'' a lot. I'm uploading 2 things I still have which I probably paid 5 cents for. Again, as a kid, I thought these were hysterical. thanks for the memories...
Burba Lake
19 miles away 1 PHOTO ...picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, though I'm not a great writer...this is a wonderful and...
