There's some flowing water close by, Collington Branch is a stream you can check out during your stay, and if you've had enough of Depot Pond, Schoolhouse Pond is nearby. This lake is so wonderful. There's delightful hiking along the Magnolia Trail; get yourself into a kayak and hit Anacostia River - Northwest Branch. Lake is just a very short distance away. You're sure to encounter some great people from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria here. All the water falling down from the sky makes Depot Pond a wet place; through the month of August you get
the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest. All through the long summer days at Depot Pond highs are mostly in the 80's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's; night lows at Depot Pond throughout the wintertime regularly sink into the 20's.

 | 14 miles away I often take my kids to the park at Greenbelt Lake. The playground is very big and they have a ton of fun. There are things there suitable for all kids ages. We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |
Burba Lake
 | 15 miles away 1 PHOTO .... Meade army post is a beautiful nature preserve with picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, t... |
