If you like lakes and you're in this part of Maryland you can check out Chews Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Duncan's Family Campground is a delightful local campground, and after a long day outdoors Executive Inn and Suites is a nice place to spend a night or two. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Chews Lake; Magnolia Trail is a splendid local trail. Summertime at Chews Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures

If you're here at Chews Lake and you like golf, you can stop by Marlborough Golf Club, and the great people of Washington-Arlington-Alexandria like to hang out close by. right next door to Chews Lake? Schoolhouse Pond is in close proximity, and there are some good whitewater spots on Anacostia River. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Sleep Inn & Suites, and the Loop Trail offers hiking at its best.

 | 16 miles away I often take my kids to the park at Greenbelt Lake. The playground is very big and they have a ton of fun. There are things there suitable for all kids ages. We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |
Burba Lake

A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. Gilbert Run Lake
