Meade army post is a beautiful nature preserve with picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. Burba Lake Dam is a place that is close to Burba Lake, and in case you don’t mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Patapsco River. Now, you may feel that's plenty but there's even more fun stuff to do here at Burba Lake. Looking for something close to Burba Lake? 18 Reservoir is in close proximity, and Little Patuxent River is a magnificent whitewater spot nearby. Some close by water       includes Franklin Branch; camping at Holiday Mobile Estates is always a pleasant experience. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a location to stay Towneplace Suites By Marriott Fort Meade is a wonderful choice. You could also visit Kelly Pool while you're here at Burba Lake; it's nearby, and camping is available at Millersville Koa Kampground. A glorious close by hotel is Courtyard By Marriott Bwi Fort Meade, and Greenbelt Park is a good local destination.                  Through the summertime, highs generally are in the 80's at Burba Lake, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Burba Lake are in the 20's. The high level of precipitation makes Burba Lake a quite wet spot; during May this area sees the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful.
