Lots of people from Baltimore-Towson come to Ashburton Lake, and unsurprisingly Dead Run flows through this area. This lake is so wonderful. Pecks Branch Dam is worth checking out since you're here, and a round of golf at nearby Forest Park Golf Course is a delightful way to kill some time.

Ashburton Lake is a good location of typical rain; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily May, that's the one that rains the most; February on the other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful. If you came to camp Timer Ridge is a brilliant place to do that, and paddling on Gwynns Falls is so much fun.

... on the Ft. Meade army post is a beautiful nature preserve with picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All... |
