Hiking along the Cross Road Trail is glorious fun; Duncan's Family Campground is a good campground nearby. This lake is so wonderful. This is a popular site for folks from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, and if you have time to spare, Greenbelt Park is a national park worth a visit. This lake is so wonderful. choice. There's always Allen Pond Dam to check out next to Allen Pond, and you can run the rapids of Little Patuxent River. High temperatures at Allen Pond throughout the warm days of summer are in the 80's; the nighttime is fairly
cooler of course, regularly in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and night lows at Allen Pond all through the winter ordinarily dip into the 20's. Hampton Inn Bowie is a nice site to get some rest; a good site for whitewater paddling is Anacostia River.

Burba Lake
 | 1 PHOTO ...ed on the Ft. Meade army post is a beautiful nature preserve with picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. A... |

 | 10 miles away Regular camping fees at this time (06/08) are $16/night. I have been camping at Greenbelt Park every summer for a week for the last 7 years. It was always at $14 up till last year when it went up to $16. Great Park though! Love it!... |
Greenbelt Lake
 | 11 miles away I often take my kids to the park at Greenbelt Lake. The playground is very big and they have a ton of fun. There are things there suitable for all kids ages. We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |
