If you need a site to stay Courtyard Fort Meade at National Business Park is a brilliant choice, and Greenbelt Park is a great local destination. Summertime highs at 18 Reservoir generally tend to be in the 80's while overnight lows are commonly in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at 18 Reservoir fall into the 20's. Estates is a splendid local campground. Looking for something close to 18 Reservoir? Soldier Lake is close by, and while you're here you can play some golf at Bowie Golf & Country Club. A glorious place to camp here at 18 Reservoir
is Millersville Koa Kampground; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Little Patuxent River.
This lake is so wonderful. Franklin Branch is near 18 Reservoir and is always a pleasure to
explore, and at Soldier Lake Dam close to 18 Reservoir there are some exciting things to see. 18 Reservoir regularly gets a great deal of rain; during the month of May you get the most rain around here while January is typically the driest month.

...picnic facilities for large and small groups. A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. Regular camping fees at this time (06/08) are $16/night. I have been camping at Greenbelt Park every summer for a week for the last 7 years. It was always at $14 up till last year when it went up to $16. Great Park though! Love it!... |

I often take my kids to the park at Greenbelt Lake. The playground is very big and they have a ton of fun. There are things there suitable for all kids ages. We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |
