There's brilliant hiking along the Indian Trail, and nice skiing awaits you at Ski Butternut. Don't you try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a glorious time here at Yagar Pond. At Yagar Pond you always meet someone from Hudson; Mount Bushnell is beautiful and can be observed from here. This lake is so wonderful. Lee Pond is a delightful lake in the vicinity of Yagar Pond, and if you came to camp Taconic State Park Copake Falls is a great place to do that. No need
to travel far to visit exciting stuff like Jug End, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Northrop Trail.
Hiking is a popular thing to do around Yagar Pond; Elbow Trail is a fine local trail, and Yagar Pond is nice enough to spend more than a day at, Camp Waubeeka is a nice local campground. The amount of rainfall that falls at Yagar Pond is close to the national average; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily May, that's the one that rains the

most; February is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Chambery Inn; nearby Guilder Hollow is a good site to go.
In case you don’t mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Housatonic River, and a quick journey to Guilder Brook is definitely a nice idea. After a long day outdoors Days Inn Great Barrington is a splendid place to spend a night or two, and next to Yagar Pond you discover a golf course called Egremont Country Club. During the warm days of summer here at Yagar Pond, high temperatures generally reach the 80's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Yagar Pond.
Now, you may assume that's lots but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here at Yagar Pond. There are other locations here than Yagar Pond, for example Guilder Pond; if you're interested in hydro structures, you can visit Guilder Pond Dam. Bash Bish Brook is a delightful whitewater spot right next door to Yagar Pond, and skiing at Catamount is one of those things you just must do. This lake is so wonderful.

Hilltop Pond
17 miles away
Hilltop Pond is a beautiful private pond. It's owned by the home owner on the top of the hill to the west and other adjoining land owners have pond rights. It's quite shallow, so it will always be in need of constant cleaning. The 42 acre pond is home to loads of wildlife and is the prime souce of water flowing into Macedonia State Park.

An interesting fact: The dam, rebuilt in the early 90's is made up of concrete blocks, each weighing over a ton. Environmental regulations wouldn't allow pouring cement into forms, so the large number of blocks were layed in place, held in place only by their individaul mass.

Jimmy Walker, the mayor of NYC would visit Hilltop Lodge, with his buddies. Hilltop Lodge was located on the west side of Weber Road where the road takes a bend well above about mid point in the length of the pond. The lodge burned to the ground in the 50's. There was no structure on the property from then until 1984, when the home to the north was constructed....

In 1947, Skiing Hall of Fame member, Walt Schoenknecht, created Mohawk Mountain Ski Area amidst the beauty of the Southern Berkshire Mountain. The following winter he invented snowmaking, which is currently used at winter resorts throughout the world. Mohawk Mountain has remained a family business and a favorite destination for succeeding generations of families.Mohawk Mountain Ski Area is a private corporation working in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection at Mohawk State Park. Mohawk State Forest has cross-country trails for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at the top of the mountain but are not maintained or connected with the Ski Area. Access is obtained off of Rt. 4 in Cornwall CT....

Roeliff Jansen Kill River
19 miles away
Hey, for anyone interested in kyaking or Canoeing down the Ro-Jan Kill beware: There are many downed trees, which in an instant could pin you down and end your life. No one maintains this water way, and in many sections you will be forced by naturally occurring dams to get out of your canoe, or kyak and walk you and your vessel down stream through thickets of nettle. Personally I completed a trip down this beautiful stream unaware of the many deadly stimuli. So if in the near future you plan to get away from everything, just take note to the above....

Catamount

I have the great fortune of living near Catamount so I can go pretty much any time I want. It's a great ski area for being of moderate size. Good variety of runs, no chance of getting bored....
