The top of Crosbys Hill is easily made out from Spectacle Ponds, and you'll probably meet some people from Boston-Cambridge-Quincy here. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing stuff at Spectacle Ponds. The snow is fine at Blue Hills, and there are other places here than Spectacle Ponds, for example Nutting Lake. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Charles River, and Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area is a great local destination. a great site to spend a night or two. There's some flowing water nearby, Beaver Brook is a stream you can stop at during your stay; if you came for an overnight stay Star Camps is a splendid location to camp. If you want a wonderful
time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Spectacle Ponds. If you come at the right time of year, Concord River offers some good whitewater. Lakes? Sure, Fawn Lake is close at hand. If you're a golfer then a good nearby course
is Pine Meadows Golf Club, and if you want to hit the beach, Silver Lake Town Beach is in the neighborhood. Spectacle Ponds sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is November, and February is when it's
the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Hampton Inn BedfordBurlington is a perfect spot to get some rest, and camping is available at CDM.

Lake Cochichewick
 | 14 miles away Lake Cochichewick formerly known as Great Pond, is located near the inersections of rt 125 and Great Pond Road in North Andover MA. The lake is a little over 200 acres and long and narrow but widens quite a bit in the middle. The average depth near in the midde is about 40ft however the lake can reach depths of up to 60ft. The lake is a protected reservoir so fishing and boating are by town permit only. Swimming and gas moters are prohibited. Large and small mouth bass are in decent numbers as well as perch, pickerel, sunfish, also there is Northern Pike around but few have hooked up one in the summer season. Mercury level are fairly high so it is recomended to limit the consumption of fish to 1 meal a month. Most of the locals you will meet on the lake are all artificial bait, catch and release fisherman.... |
Locust Pond
 | 15 miles away 1 PHOTO Locust Pond is a lake that was formed in 1954 by the creation of the Locust Pond Dam on Locust Brook, which flows from the Locust Pond to the larger Merrimack River. Locust Pond is considered a lake because Mass Regs (310 CMR 10.04) state that a lake is ?any open body of fresh water with a surface area of ten acres or more, and shall include great ponds. The site is bordered by Locust Avenue and light residential development to the northwest, and Route 3 to the southwest. The other half of the perimeter is bordered by dense development. The pond is mostly open water with no emergent marsh development. The upland is all forested. The habitat quality of this site is limited by the development surrounding it, however, it should provide at least transient habitat for aquatic mammals such as beaver, otter, and mink, and many of the upland mammals and migratory songbirds of forested habitats.... |
