After a long day outdoors Hampton Inn Suites Greenfield is a great site to spend a night or two, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Sunset Trail. You can take a little tour to Wood Dam if you're here at Newell Pond, and Horse Race is relatively close by if you're in a beach type of mood. This lake is so wonderful. The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Living Memorial Park; whitewater paddling is splendid on Green River. A

that's the one that rains the most; February on the other hand is the driest. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun stuff at Newell Pond. Newell Pond is right by the Sunrise Trail, and if you want to hit the beach, Greenfield Beach is nearby.

Barton Cove Campground
 | I have been going there for over 20 years. It is a great place to take a family and if you are lucky, you will get to see the bald eagles (I actually got to see their first flight)....Lovely campground with huge, clean wooded tent sites. Some sites overlook the Connecticut River, and a few offer access to a swimming or fishing beach. There are some high cliffs on the river side of the campground, partly blocked with post and rail fencing. Small children may not respect the fences, so that should be considered when families with kids choose their site. Overall very enjoyable, and I look forward to returning soon.... |

It's a rugged hike up Mine Ledge,and a quarter mile more to a spectacular seventy foot ledge dropoff. Great views to the south of the Connecticut River, meandering southward. This is one of my favorite places ever.... |
