A swamp like Slocum Meadow close to Mud Pond has lots of out of the ordinary things to see; Coal Mine Brook is one of the streams close by that might be worth visiting. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Clear and Branch, and if you need a location to stay Residence Inn Worcester is a perfect choice.
This lake is so wonderful. The Walkabout Trail is a great hiking trail in the vicinity of Mud Pond, and don't miss out on a tour to Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor if you're here. All through the summertime months at Mud Pond highs are mostly in the 70's. All through the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 30's while Mud Pond overnight low temperatures during the winter are in the 10's.
