A lake close by is Althea Lake, and Chandler Hill is a peak you can make out from Long Pond. Dry warm beds await you at Stonehedge Inn & Spa, and swamps like Spruce Swamp in the vicinity of Long Pond make for great spots to visit. This lake is so wonderful. lows in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Long Pond temperatures sink to the 0's. A typical amount of rain falls here at Long Pond; the month with
most of the rain is November while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. If you come at the right time of year, Concord River offers some glorious whitewater. Long Pond is a nearby lake that you could check
out, and Pine Valley Golf Links is a great golf course close by. If you need a place to stay Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Chelmsford/Lowell is a magnificent choice, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; McIntyre is relatively near.

Locust Pond
 | 1 PHOTO Locust Pond is a lake that was formed in 1954 by the creation of the Locust Pond Dam on Locust Brook, which flows from the Locust Pond to the larger Merrimack River. Locust Pond is considered a lake because Mass Regs (310 CMR 10.04) state that a lake is ?any open body of fresh water with a surface area of ten acres or more, and shall include great ponds. The site is bordered by Locust Avenue and light residential development to the northwest, and Route 3 to the southwest. The other half of the perimeter is bordered by dense development. The pond is mostly open water with no emergent marsh development. The upland is all forested. The habitat quality of this site is limited by the development surrounding it, however, it should provide at least transient habitat for aquatic mammals such as beaver, otter, and mink, and many of the upland mammals and migratory songbirds of forested habitats.... |

Lake Cochichewick
 | 19 miles away Lake Cochichewick formerly known as Great Pond, is located near the inersections of rt 125 and Great Pond Road in North Andover MA. The lake is a little over 200 acres and long and narrow but widens quite a bit in the middle. The average depth near in the midde is about 40ft however the lake can reach depths of up to 60ft. The lake is a protected reservoir so fishing and boating are by town permit only. Swimming and gas moters are prohibited. Large and small mouth bass are in decent numbers as well as perch, pickerel, sunfish, also there is Northern Pike around but few have hooked up one in the summer season. Mercury level are fairly high so it is recomended to limit the consumption of fish to 1 meal a month. Most of the locals you will meet on the lake are all artificial bait, catch and release fisherman.... |
