Fisher Brook flows through this region, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Lake Wyola Reservoir; Sunset Trail is a brilliant local trail. So much entertaining stuff to do at Lake Wyola Reservoir, so little time. Soar down the rapids of Millers River - Lower in a kayak; folks from Springfield love to come here. This lake is so wonderful. Wagon wheel Camping Area is a great campground nearby, and University Lodge is a glorious place to get some rest.

| | There's a delightful forest near Lake Wyola Reservoir called Leverett State Forest.
This lake is so wonderful. There's always Lake Myola Dam to visit near Lake Wyola Reservoir; there's delightful hiking along the Sunrise Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Lake Wyola Reservoir. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here | |

A good deal of rain falls at Lake Wyola Reservoir; the month with
most of the rain is November, and February is when it's the driest. The top of Ames Hill is easily made out from Lake Wyola Reservoir, and if you come at the right time of year, Ashuelot River offers some perfect whitewater. If you
came for an overnight stay Barton Cove Campground is a magnificent place to camp, obviously you could also have a look at Fiske Pond if you're here; it's not far at all.

Barton Cove Campground
 | I have been going there for over 20 years. It is a great place to take a family and if you are lucky, you will get to see the bald eagles (I actually got to see their first flight)....Lovely campground with huge, clean wooded tent sites. Some sites overlook the Connecticut River, and a few offer access to a swimming or fishing beach. There are some high cliffs on the river side of the campground, partly blocked with post and rail fencing. Small children may not respect the fences, so that should be considered when families with kids choose their site. Overall very enjoyable, and I look forward to returning soon.... |
Factory Hollow Pond
 | This pond is known by everyone as Puffer's pond and I've never heard it called this before. In the summer there are a lot of swimmers, but it makes good early morning fishing.... |

There is a portage around the #2 dam which is about a mile or so below the Wilcox Hollow put in. The portage includes an 800 foot long carry and a scramble down a steep, rocky slope.... |
Forest Lake

Firstly, Forest Lake does not offer any camping whatsoever, public or private. There is a Jewish retreat camp within 1/2 mile of Forest Lake, however that is not open to the public and is not on Forest Lake itself. Camp Ramah is on Pattaquattic Pond. In neighboring Monson, MA, there is a camp, but that is about 10 miles from the only access point offered to the public on Forest Lake, and is also not connected to Forest Lake in any way. Forest Lake in Palmer, MA, only has about 100 ft. of publicly accessible shore, probably about fifty of which is a swimmer's beach. Fishing is allowed. You can launch boats, but there is a 10 mph and 10 hp limit for motoring. Currently, the restaurant and bar across the street, ''Doyle's'', previously ''Lakeview Lounge'' is closed. Palmer is a lovely, quiet town off of the interstate with few accomodations for those looking to stay overnight, nevermind camp. Campers should look elsewhere and day-trip to Palmer if they want to try their luck at this small-town community beach.... |

If you go to Indian Pond in June, your likely to see it surrounded by the pink flowers of Mountain Laurel. It's very pretty. Mine Ledge to the West and East Hill to the East. It's a rugged hike up Mine Ledge,and a quarter mile more to a spectacular seventy foot ledge dropoff. Great views to the south of the Connecticut River, meandering southward. This is one of my favorite places ever.... |
