Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Millers River, and Woods Ice Pond is a nearby lake that you could go to. Lake Rohunta is a reasonably wet place mostly with a great deal of rain; May is the month that gets the most rain; the driest month of the year is February. Do set aside some time for The Plains if you're here at Lake Rohunta; | |

get your heart pumping on the fine whitewater of Ashuelot River - South Branch. You absolutely have to fancy Lake Rohunta. If you need a site to stay Holiday Inn Express Keene, Nh is a delightful choice; you can see Kelton Hill
from Lake Rohunta. This lake is so wonderful. There's some flowing water close by, Cold Brook is a stream you can stop at during your stay. There's so much to do here at Lake Rohunta that you need to camp here for a while, Lakeridge
Campground is a wonderful place for that. Hiking along the White Arrow Trail is splendid fun, and beautiful scenery and great skiing is what you get at Pine Ridge. Throughout the summertime months, highs regularly are in the 80's
at Lake Rohunta. All through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are typically in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Lake Rohunta sink into
the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Lake Rohunta is right by the Marlboro Trail; since you're here, you could also go to beautiful White Pond. After a long day outdoors Best Western Sovereign Hotel is a good site to spend a night or two.

Millers River
Rode it today.... lost 5 canoes on it as it rained last night and transformed into Class IV rapids.... Luckily we rescued 1 canoe and all 12 people got safely off of the river....
Barton Cove Campground
14 miles away I have been going there for over 20 years. It is a great place to take a family and if you are lucky, you will get to see the bald eagles (I actually got to see their first flight)....Lovely campground with huge, clean wooded tent sites. Some sites overlook the Connecticut River, and a few offer access to a swimming or fishing beach. There are some high cliffs on the river side of the campground, partly blocked with post and rail fencing. Small children may not respect the fences, so that should be considered when families with kids choose their site. Overall very enjoyable, and I look forward to returning soon....

Forest Lake
18 miles away Firstly, Forest Lake does not offer any camping whatsoever, public or private. There is a Jewish retreat camp within 1/2 mile of Forest Lake, however that is not open to the public and is not on Forest Lake itself. Camp Ramah is on Pattaquattic Pond. In neighboring Monson, MA, there is a camp, but that is about 10 miles from the only access point offered to the public on Forest Lake, and is also not connected to Forest Lake in any way. Forest Lake in Palmer, MA, only has about 100 ft. of publicly accessible shore, probably about fifty of which is a swimmer's beach. Fishing is allowed. You can launch boats, but there is a 10 mph and 10 hp limit for motoring. Currently, the restaurant and bar across the street, ''Doyle's'', previously ''Lakeview Lounge'' is closed. Palmer is a lovely, quiet town off of the interstate with few accomodations for those looking to stay overnight, nevermind camp. Campers should look elsewhere and day-trip to Palmer if they want to try their luck at this small-town community beach....
Factory Hollow Pond
18 miles away This pond is known by everyone as Puffer's pond and I've never heard it called this before. In the summer there are a lot of swimmers, but it makes good early morning fishing....
