The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Wachusett Mountain; folks from Manchester-Nashua love to come here. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this location. Near Hawk Pond you find the Old Country Road which is a glorious hiking trail. Lakes? Sure, Lovewell Pond is nearby. This lake is so wonderful. | | days of summer at Hawk Pond highs are frequently in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Hawk Pond descend into the 10's. There is a pleasant hiking trail near Hawk Pond called the Mitchell Hill Road, and Hawk Pond is great enough to spend more than a day at, Minuteman KOA is a great local campground. Hawk Pond. McIntyre is a very popular ski area in close proximity; paddling on Assabet River is so much fun. Hawk Pond is a quite wet place regularly with a lot of rain; the wettest month of the year is usually November, that's
the one that rains the most, and the driest month is September. This lake is so wonderful. An afternoon playing golf at Overlook Golf Club is always a pleasure, and a swamp like Hauk Swamp near Hawk Pond has lots of interesting things
to see. Blanchard Hill can be distinguished from Hawk Pond, and a wonderful nearby hotel is Holiday Inn NASHUA.

Locust Pond
 | 1 PHOTO Locust Pond is a lake that was formed in 1954 by the creation of the Locust Pond Dam on Locust Brook, which flows from the Locust Pond to the larger Merrimack River. Locust Pond is considered a lake because Mass Regs (310 CMR 10.04) state that a lake is ?any open body of fresh water with a surface area of ten acres or more, and shall include great ponds. The site is bordered by Locust Avenue and light residential development to the northwest, and Route 3 to the southwest. The other half of the perimeter is bordered by dense development. The pond is mostly open water with no emergent marsh development. The upland is all forested. The habitat quality of this site is limited by the development surrounding it, however, it should provide at least transient habitat for aquatic mammals such as beaver, otter, and mink, and many of the upland mammals and migratory songbirds of forested habitats.... |
