The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Wachusett Mountain, and there are plenty of people from Worcester here at Colburns Reservoir. Lakes? Sure, Rockwell Pond is in the neighborhood, and do take a hike on the Wapack Trail. This lake is so wonderful.
