Why not camp at Shady Lake Recreational Vehicle Park while you're here at Castor Lake, and a wonderful lake like Alligator Lake is a splendid site to stop at. Castor Lake is a wet spot that gets lots of precipitation; during the month of December you get the most rain around here while August is ordinarily the driest month. You think that's enough? Just getting warmed up. There's some       flowing water nearby, Beason Creek is a stream you can visit while you're here, and Leesville-Days Inn is a delightful site to get some rest. Good hiking is available along the Whisky Chitto Trail. Diamond's RV Park and Campground is a fine local campground, and the smiling people of Fort Polk South like to hang out nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Castor Lake without first going for a hike along the Big Branch Trail, and there's always Castor                  Lake Dam to stop by in the neighborhood of Castor Lake. Summertime highs at Castor Lake regularly tend to be in the 90's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 70's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's while Castor Lake overnight low temperatures through the winter are in the 30's.
