A good swamp next to Ben Lake is Bayou Athao; Ben Lake is not far at all from Natchitoches. This lake is so wonderful. Ben Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Dogwood Ridge Camper Park is a great local campground, and Travelodge Natchitoches is a great spot to get some rest. During the summertime months at Ben Lake temperatures are typically in the 90's while overnight lows are frequently in the 70's. The wintertime       comes with highs in the 50's; after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Ben Lake drop into the 30's. The high level of rain makes Ben Lake a pretty wet spot; through the month of December you get the most rain around here; the driest of the months is August. There's so much to do here at Ben Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Nakatosh Campground is a good site for that.
