Be careful coming to the Cumberland Plateau Mountains, you might not ever want to return home again. There are some good whitewater spots on Obey River - West Fork; Sulphur Creek Resort is a great local campground. Nearby lakes? Sure, Duvall Pond is right next door to Sawyers Pond, and one of the governing features of       the surroundings of Sawyers Pond is Burchett Mountain. At Sawyers Pond through the summertime highs are in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. During the winter highs are typically in the 40's; all through the dark hours in the winter at Sawyers Pond temperatures fall to the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Obey River - East Fork offers some delightful whitewater; a tremendous close by                  hotel is Best Western Albany Garden Inn. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things at Sawyers Pond. After a long day outdoors Best Western Columbia is a good location to spend a night or two. A lot of precipitation falls at Sawyers Pond; March is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is October.
